Episode 019 - Death Companioning with Guest Lucinda Herring

In this episode, meet Lucinda Herring, author of Reimagining Death, Licensed Funeral Director and long-time home funeral guide. Why is she on this podcast? So we can talk about Death Companioning and Lucinda’s work in this field. In addition to this, I share a lot of updates—and definitely get emotional. My sister Christina died, I share my grief and bring you up to speed with the happenings of your favorite (I hope!) American Thanatologist.

REIMAGINING DEATH: STORIES AND PRACTICAL WISDOM FOR HOME FUNERALS AND GREEN BURIALS BY LUCINDA HERRING

¶ GET CERTIFIED IN THANATOLOGY AND DEATH COMPANIONING WITH ME—ALL ONLINE!

In partnership with Mid-America College of Funeral Service, one of the oldest stand-alone mortuary colleges in the US, you can now train WITH ME, 100% online to become Certified in Thanatology OR Certified in Death Companioning. Each certificate program gets you letters after your name after you graduate and each program is made up of two 5-credit hour college courses. It’s 22 weeks of instruction total, for each. Better yet, you don’t have to be a degree seeking student, you can enroll as a non-degree seeking student. How cool that you can do this through me and an actual mortuary college?! You just have to have a high school diploma as a non-degree seeking student. TUITION: $500 (This is subject to change!)

¶ MY FELLOWSHIP IS COMPLETE!

I completed my fellowship! Thanabotany was born and my fellowship lecture was live-streamed and is up on my website and youtube channel.

¶ I’M GRIEVING BUTTONS

Big thanks to Jessica Williams, who, in her grief, shared something that resulted from my grief. Grief hugs.

If you are interested in this button, it’s available on my website. There’s also a YouTube video up where I talk about how this button works.

One of the most common emails we get is you guys asking what books I recommend, or what my favorite keto related products are, or stuff related to CBD. If you go to my support page on my site, there’s a link to an amazon storefront I put together where I put all of that in one place, by category.

¶ REVIEW SPOTLIGHT!

Pack your baggage!

By Simplurr

I stumbled across this podcast by searching for “Tarot” and I thought the logo was the prettiest thing ever. After listening to episode one I was hooked. After episode one of the L.P.M. I was sobbing and I’m not one to cry over entertainment. Since then I’ve pretty much sobbed over every episode at least once because this wonderful lady had the answers to questions I refused to ask myself. If you have a rough background or if you are having a hard time with just about anything in your life . I urge you to listen to this podcast it will change you to your truest self. Thank you to all who help support and produce the podcast you’ve helped me so much.

Leave me a review and get featured! I really appreciate your reviews. You help other people find the help they need on their grief journeys.

¶ DEATH COMPANIONING

What is it? Death Companions are end-of-life professionals with two roles:

  • To serve their communities as educators

  • To serve individuals, families and other small groups who are navigating a significant loss.

Death Companions do not provide medical or legal advice, but do make referrals. They provide non-medical and non-judgemental support. They are knowledgeable about the process of dying, death, grief and bereavement and about healthcare and deathcare. They are able to utilize their skillsets to serve their communities and their clients.

Always existed, always been people you could call who would know what to do when it comes to death and dying.

Includes sub specialties.

Can train with me.

Guest today is Lucinda Herring. I have been connected to Lucinda for several years now, I think back to 2015. She just had a book come out called Reimagining Death: Stories and Practical Wisdom for Home Funerals and Green Burials. Guys, Lucinda has been doing this for decades AND she is also a licensed funeral director. If you love what you hear, get her book, request your local library get it in and leave a review. Reviews matter and they just take your time.
